— A southwest Missouri man has been charged with abandoning a corpse after a woman told investigators she saw him wrapping up a girl's body and placing it in the trunk of his car.

Anthony James Balbirnie was arrested Monday after a chase that began around 5:30 p.m. in Greene County and ended in Dallas County. The charge was filed Sunday in Benton County but didn't show up in online records until later.

The 47-year-old Springfield man is accused of dumping the body of 15-year-old Khighla Parks, of Willard, into Truman Lake near Warsaw.

Khighla was reported missing Sept. 20 after walking away from her grandparents' home. Fishermen found her body in the lake 10 days later.

Court documents say Balbirnie told a woman he was taking the body to Warsaw.
