Man dies after police use stun gun on him
October 4
Police said Travis L. Maupin barricaded himself in a home in the 1100 block of Chestnut Avenue shortly after officers arrived about 1 a.m. Maupin came outside and talked to police, who were there to investigate allegations that he had tried to strangle a woman at the home, police said.
The Miami County sheriff’s office was summoned for additional help.
Police said Maupin ran as paramedics checked the woman for injuries. They chased him for about a block and used the electroshock weapon on him when he resisted.
Maupin was rushed to Miami County Medical Center, where he later died, police said.
Osawatomie authorities have asked the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to look into the death.
