Chiefs notebook: Team picks captains
September 5
Quarterback Matt Cassel and guard Ryan Lilja are the offensive captains, linebacker Derrick Johnson and safety Eric Berry the defensive captains and punter Dustin Colquitt and wide receiver Terrance Copper the special-teams captains.
Poes a bundle of emotions
Chiefs first-round pick Dontari Poe has played four preseason games, and hes started one. But nothing will match starting the regular-season opener on Sunday against Atlanta.
Ill be kind of nervous, excited and a lot of emotions all in one, said Poe, who likely will start at nose tackle in place of Anthony Toribio, who missed practice on Wednesday with an ankle injury. But Ive got to bundle that up and do what Im used to doing. Ive got to settle myself down and do what this defense needs.
Injury report
The Chiefs listed nose tackle Toribio (ankle), defensive end Allen Bailey (ankle) and safety Kendrick Lewis (shoulder) as not practicing on Wednesday. Linebacker Johnson (ankle) and cornerbacks Jalil Brown (groin) and Brandon Flowers (foot) were limited.
Atlanta listed running back Jason Snelling (calf) and cornerback Christopher Owens (hamstring) as limited.
