Also, 32 fans will unveil their teams 2012 season flag as winners of the inaugural NFL Fan Flag Challenge. The contest asked fans to submit designs with elements representative of their teams city, community, traditions or fans. The winners concept was then used to create the teams flag. The 32 fans will be joined by 32 NFL legends to unveil their teams flag.
The NFL regular season begins on Wednesday night when the Dallas Cowboys visit the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.
Shields, a member of the Chiefs Hall of Fame, was a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility last February and will likely be a finalist in 2013.
Another former Chief, offensive tackle Willie Roaf, who was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August, will represent the New Orleans Saints in New York.
