Sporting KCs Graham Zusi called up to U.S. national team
September 2
The U.S. Soccer Federation announced the 25-man roster Sunday for upcoming home-and-away FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Jamaica. The team will train in Miami before playing Friday at Independence Park in Kingston, Jamaica.
It is always an honor to play for your national team, and I am very excited to be called in for World Cup qualifying, Zusi said in a statement from Sporting KC. This is a great time for American soccer and I will do whatever I can and work extremely hard to contribute.
Jamaica has never lost at home to the U.S. in World Cup qualifying.
Of course, the U.S. had never won at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City before Zusi and the national team claimed a shocking 1-0 win Aug. 15.
The U.S. and Jamaica are tied atop the CONCACAF Group A table with four points, but Klinsmanns squad is ahead on goal differential.
Joining Zusi will be Clint Dempsey, who recently moved to Tottenham. Though Dempsey has not played a competitive match since a qualifier in June at Guatemala, Klinsmann wouldnt rule out using him Friday.
