Updated: 2012-08-30T22:22:39Z

A semitrailer hauling several cars caught fire this afternoon, fully engulfing the cars and the cab of the semi.

The fire was reported shortly before 2:30 p.m. on the ramp from southbound Interstate 635 to westbound Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Kan.

The cab and three cars on the trailer caught fire and suffered heavy damage. The fire also started a small grass fire in the area that firefighters quickly extinguished.

The fire caused authorities to shut down the ramp from I-635 to westbound I-70, but it reopened about 4:30 p.m.

No one was injured in the fire. The truck driver noticed the fire, pulled over and safely got out of the semi.
