Hugh says goodbye

Playboy founder Hugh Hefner shared a little secret this week about his friend Helen Gurley Brown, who died Monday at age 90. The “Sex and the Single Girl” author and editor of Cosmopolitan magazine approached him with an idea after her book came out in 1962.

“She wanted to do a female version of Playboy,” Hef told The Hollywood Reporter. “It was the early 1960s, and I had just started the first Playboy Club and a magazine, Show Business Illustrated, which was not doing well, and I was not at the point where I felt I could take on another magazine title.

“So she approached Hearst, and they hired her to turn Cosmopolitan into a version of Playboy. In the early days, they even had a little symbol like our bunny, a pussycat that appeared at the end of every article. In a parody tribute to Playboy, she even did a nude (April 1972) centerfold with Burt Reynolds.

Back in the water

Michael Phelps stars in a new ad campaign for Louis Vuitton. But it’s another photo, reportedly shot by Annie Leibovitz and not part of the official campaign, that has people talking. In the beefcake shot, Michael reclines in his Speedos in a tub of water with a Vuitton duffle bag on the floor next to the tub. The man can do no wrong in water.

Kristin’s out. Ouch!

Kristin Chenoweth is leaving “The Good Wife” to keep recuperating from injuries she sustained when she was hit on the head with lighting equipment on the show’s set in July.

“Getting better slowly, and thank you everyone for your concern,” she said in a statement.

She was supposed to play a political reporter in a multi-episode arc. She’ll appear in the Sept. 30 premiere.

Who’s she mad at now?

Taylor Swift unveiled her new song this week, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” about an ex who refused to believe they were really broken up.

The chorus: “No, we are never ever, ever getting back together We are never ever, ever getting back together. You go talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me. But we are never ever, ever, ever getting back together. ...”

Who’s she talking about? John Mayer? Jake Gyllenhaal? Taylor Lautner?

Anyone?

Briefly

•  Kenny G filed for divorce this month from his wife of 20 years, Balynda Helene Benson-Gorelick.

•  Spike Lee’s documentary “Bad 25” about Michael Jackson — featuring footage shot by Michael himself — will mark the 25th anniversary of the “Bad” album when it plays at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

Stargazer Lisa Gutierrez says Taylor Swift needs a new schtick. To reach her, call 816-234-4987 or send email to lgutierrez@kcstar.com.
