Poll | Judging Sporting titles against Chiefs, Royals

Updated: 2012-08-09T18:04:17Z

We all know about the Chiefs' and Royals' long championship droughts -- 42 years since the Chiefs won Super Bowl IV in January 1970 and almost 27 years since the Royals won the 1985 World Series -- but what about Sporting Kansas City's championship run over the last 12 years?

Sporting KC, which won the 2000 MLS Cup and the 2004 U.S. Open Cup as the Wizards, won its third championship in franchise history Wednesday night, knocking off the Seattle Sounders in penalty kicks for another U.S. Open Cup title.

The U.S. Open Cup, a tournament open to all soccer clubs in the United States that has been contested since 1914, is played outside the Major League Soccer season but is still considered a major championship by the soccer community. Sporting still has a chance at the MLS Cup and reached the conference final last season.

But what do you think? Are Sporting's three championships in 12 years more impressive than a single Super Bowl title by the Chiefs or World Series crown by the Royals? Vote in our poll.
