Matt Syzmanski may eventually earn a job as a punter or placekicker in the NFL. It just won’t happen with the Chiefs this year.

He’s in camp with the Chiefs as their extra leg. The Chiefs are set with Dustin Colquitt as their punter and Ryan Succop as their kicker. But Szymanski, who kicked in college first at Texas A&M and later at Southern Methodist, can both punt and kick, so eventually his versatility could land him a job somewhere.
Q: Are you a better punter or kicker?
A: It’s whatever the team feels is the best fit for me. I feel I’m pretty even in both. I love them both.
Q: Why come to the Chiefs when they are already set at both positions?
A: We have a really good punter and a really good placekicker, so it’s been a good experience for me to work with them and see how they work.
Q: You’d obviously like to leave camp with a job but realistically it’s going to be difficult for you. Other than that, what do you hope to get out of your time with the Chiefs?
A: It’s just about learning how the NFL works. There are things I will pick up that will be valuable.
