Bocanegra says he’d consider MLS again
Carlos Bocanegra made an appearance Saturday at Livestrong Sporting Park and will play in tonight’s All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game at Kauffman Stadium.
Bocanegra, who has 13 goals in 106 appearances as a defender with the U.S. men’s national team, said he’d welcome a return to Major League Soccer, where he started with the Chicago Fire in 2000.
“I’d 100 percent consider playing in MLS again,” Bocanegra said. “I started here and I know the league well. I know it’s a demanding league, a physical league.”
He remains under contract with Rangers FC of the Scottish Premier League and wouldn’t elaborate on a possible timetable for such a move. “But I would never rule it out,” Bocanegra said.
Rangers FC made news in recent weeks by filing for bankruptcy, which is likely to result in the club’s relegation.
For the immediate future, Bocanegra plans to concentrate on continuing a highly successful celebrity softball career — and meeting the Chiefs’ starting quarterback.
“I’m batting 1.000 in my celebrity softball appearances, so hopefully I can do that this year,” Bocanegra said. “I saw Matt Cassel was playing, which is pretty cool. … I look forward to meeting him, but it’s just nice to get around other athletes and it’s fun sometimes with the Hollywood stars, too. They’d love to do our job and we’d love to do their job, so it’s cool.”
