Missouri’s planned athletic facilities upgrades have been months in the making, but with the athletic department primed to present its plan before the school’s Board of Curators on Tuesday, some details of the plan have finally come into focus.

For example, the price. According to a document on the Missouri Board of Curators’ website, the athletic department is requesting $72 million in revenue bonds for facility upgrades as the Tigers begin competition in the Southeastern Conference this fall.

Most of the money is dedicated to football facilities. The most sizable chunk, $46.05 million, will go toward improving the east side of Memorial Stadium and calls for the addition of 5,200 bleacher and 800-900 premium seats, plus the construction of restrooms, concessions and lounge spaces. The recommended architect for the east side addition is Populous, which helped designed Mizzou Arena when it was known as HOK Sport.

The plan also calls for a $9.75 million renovation to the press box on the west side of the stadium, which will add new suite and club seating, plus restrooms and lounges with updated furnishings. Another Kansas City architecture firm, 360 Architecture, is recommended to work on the west side project. That firm also helped build Mizzou Arena.

There are also six other projects in the proposal with costs estimated at less than $5 million each. They call for structural improvements to Memorial Stadium and also extending the north plaza for possible new seating areas.

The other four projects call for renovations to the school’s tennis facility, baseball and softball stadiums, track and field complex and golf facility.

The athletic department will also announce a “major private gift” at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Reynolds Alumni Center.
