A Kansas City man was sentenced Thursday to seven years in prison for the death of a passenger in a vehicle he was driving while drunk.

Keevon U. Mitchell, 33, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the death of 32-year-old Lonnie M. Thompson. Thompson, who was in the back seat, was thrown from the vehicle when Mitchell struck the concrete median on Bruce Watkins Drive at 31st Street on May 21, 2011. Mitchell’s blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit, he was carrying a handgun and an assault-type rifle in the vehicle and he was driving with a revoked license. He already had 11 convictions for driving without a valid license.
