Kansas' Mason Finley came through when he needed to.

Finley, a junior thrower, finished second in the discus at the NCAA Track & Field Championships on Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Finley, a native of Salida, Colo., barely qualified for the finals before making a huge move on his final throw of the day. Finley's last attempt measured out at 61.02 meters (200-2 ft.), good enough to claim the second national runner-up finish of his KU career. He also earned his third-consecutive All-American distinction in the event.

Junior Heather Bergmann finished sixth in the women's javelin, picking up three points for the KU women's team, which entered the meet ranked ranked No. 2 in the country. The championships conclude on Saturday at Drake Stadium.
