West 18th Street Fashion Show | Saturday

Saturday marks the 12th edition of the outdoor fashion show. Eighteenth Street between Baltimore and Wyandotte will be sectioned off for a runway show at 8 p.m. featuring the work of 18 local designers. Each is selected by a panel of judges, with this year’s crop featuring Birdies, Spool, Liz Peters and Method. Standing-room-only admission is free, but you can also reserve a seat for $40 or grab a front-row VIP seat for $100. Go to westeighteenthstreet.com for more information.

Rachael Ray | Sunday

Just in time for grilling season, the Food Network megastar rolls into town to discuss her new book, “The Book of Burger.” The best-selling author and 2011 People’s Choice Award winner for favorite TV chef stocks her newest work with more than 200 burger-related recipes. She’ll discuss the book — and the pleasures of food — at a 4:30 p.m. talk at Unity Temple on the Plaza. The $24.99 admission package includes a copy of the book and one event ticket. Go to rainydaybooks.com for more information.

Summer Beer Festival | Saturday

The new Summer Beer Festival sets up shop this weekend in one of the city’s prime drinking locales. Nineteen breweries, including local favorites Boulevard Brewing Co. and Free State Brewing Co., will be on hand for the outdoor festival on Pennsylvania Avenue, between McCoy’s and Kelly’s in Westport from 5 to 9 p.m.. Advance tickets are $25 ($30 at the door), and proceeds support AIDS Walk Kansas City. A full list of participating breweries is available at beerkc.com.

Dragon Boat Festival | Saturday

The eighth-annual festival hosted by the Kansas City-Xi’an Sister City Committee and the Society for Friendship With China features parades and live performances, but the primary draw is the Dragon Boat races. Mayor Sly James, who’ll serve as part of the City of Kansas City’s boat, headlines a lengthy list of Dragon Boat participants that includes representatives from the University of Kansas, Kansas State University, the Kansas City Art Institute and UMKC. The festival runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Brush Creek on the Country Club Plaza.

Royals vs. Milwaukee Brewers | Tuesday

You can probably completely rule out any kind of late-season playoff run, but the hapless Kansas City Royals have at least rebounded a bit from a disastrous 3-14 start to the year. Billy Butler has been a bright spot as the MLB season approaches the midway point. The team kicks off its series with the Brewers at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday at Kauffman Stadium. Tickets start at $10 at KCRoyals.com.
