While most of the attention from the 2012 draft focuses on first-rounders such as Chiefs nose tackle Dantari Poe, the 11th overall pick, there’s more to a draft than one round. Former NFL executive Michael Lombardi of NFL.com has unveiled his 2012 NFL Draft “All Value Team” in which he selected guard Jeff Allen, the Chiefs’ second-round pick from Illinois as one of 12 players taken from the second round on who hold the most potential for immediate and long-term value to the teams that selected them.

Allen, the 44th selection in the draft, played left tackle in college and is projected as a guard in the NFL and could be the heir apparent to Ryan Lilja. Here’s Lombardi’s list: Jeff Allen – OT/OG, Chiefs (44th) Mike Adams – OT, Steelers (56th) Demario Davis – LB, Jets (77th) Akiem Hicks – DE, Saints (89th) Omar Bolden – CB, Broncos (101st) Frank Alexander – DE Panthers (103rd) Tank Carder – LB, Bills (147th) Jack Crawford – DE, Raiders (158th) Vick Ballard – RB, Colts (170th) Billy Winn – DT, Browns (205th) Caleb McSurdy – LB, Cowboys (222nd) Cam Johnson – DE, 49ers (237th)
