Lemon conspiracy

Lemon conspiracy

Suspicious I’m growing of restaurants, thus:

They seem to be foisting off lemons on us.

No matter your order, by side of the plate,

A wedge or a slice is appearing of late.

Now, lemons with tea I’ll accept as a side

And maybe with fish (be it battered or fried);

But even potato I’ve seen to arrive

With — you guessed it — lemon as garnish with chive;

And even mere water, the glass thick or slim,

Is sprouting a half of a slice on the rim!

It’s twisting the adage you’ve heard in a fable:

When life hands you lemons, they’re brought to your table.
