One day after Savannah Nash celebrated her 16th birthday on May 8, she picked up her Missouri driver’s license. One week later, she died in a traffic accident while texting on her phone. The Harrisonville High School freshman, a repeat honor roll student and Future Farmers of America competitor, was driving alone on Thursday afternoon, only blocks from her house.

Outfielder Jarrod Dyson is expected to miss two-to-four weeks after being diagnosed Friday in Kansas City with what trainer Nick Kenney termed “a mild high ankle sprain.” Dyson, 28, suffered the injury in the eighth inning Wednesday when he scaled the center-field wall at Angel Stadium in pursuit of a Mike Trout homer against Kelvin Herrera.

KC Symphony creates elegant evening of music at Helzberg Hall

Every now and then after the intermission of a concert, you have to ask yourself if you are listening to the same performers. That was the case Friday night at Helzberg Hall, when conductor and pianist Asher Fisch led the Kansas City Symphony in an elegant evening of music by Mahler, Mozart and Brahms.

An elderly Olathe man was struck by an SUV and killed while trying to cross busy Santa Fe Street in Olathe on a motorized scooter.

Police said the man was crossing from the north side of the street, just west of Ridgeview Road, shortly after 2 p.m. when he was struck by the eastbound vehicle. There is not a crosswalk at that location.

The woman driving the SUV stopped and was interviewed by police. The case is under investigation.

Santa Fe was temporarily closed to traffic.
