James D. Kemp, of Kansas City, admitted in February that on June 16 he sodomized and kidnapped a woman and kidnapped and robbed a second woman a month later. He also pleaded guilty to four counts of armed criminal action.
The first attack happened just after 5 a.m. near 85th and Main streets.
A masked man wearing gloves and black clothing pushed a woman to the ground and used duct tape to lash her hands behind her back. He then forced her into the brush and sodomized her.
On July 17, a masked man, also wearing black, lunged at a woman parked at a car wash near 80th Street and Wornall Road, a block from the Trolley Trail.
She, too, was bound with duct tape, but was driven to an alley, where she fought with her assailant before he fled, taking $45 from her wallet.
Authorities arrested him July 26 after using DNA and fingerprints to link him to the assaults. In custody, Kemp denied knowing either victim and said he had never been at the location of either assaults.
Investigators then confronted him with the forensic evidence and he confessed to the crimes.
