The vowels — a club whose set is fixed,

Where A and E and I are mixed

With O and U — the fabled five;

So dare not ask to join their hive.

But comes along the letter Y

Which deigns that very task to try;

Chagrined, the five recoil, aghast,

To think another letter asks!

“We’re special!” (hear these letters howl);

“No word exists without a vowel!”

The letter Y had answer dry;

The question posed by upstart: “Why?
