Left-handed reliever Jose Mijares reported Monday to the Royals spring complex, which means all 30 pitchers and six catchers on the camp roster should be in uniform Tuesday when the club conducts its first official workout.Mijares, 27, was the last arrival after working through visa issues in his native Venezuela.Virtually all of the rosters 21 infielders and outfielders are also in camp, although the first full-squad workout isnt until Saturday.The pitchers and catchers are scheduled for physical examinations Tuesday morning and arent expected to take the field before noon Mountain time. Workouts typically start around 10 a.m.Lamb progressingLeft-hander John Lamb, one of the organizations top pitching prospects, is in camp and taking part in light throwing exercises as the latest step in his recovery from reconstructive elbow surgery commonly known as Tommy John surgery.Lamb, 21, underwent the procedure last June. His tentative timetable calls for him to return to the mound in July in extended spring training with the hope that he can pitch competitively over the final month of the minor-league season.Baseball America recently cited Lamb as the organizations No. 6 prospect despite the injury. He is 16-12 with a 2.86 ERA in 50 starts over three seasons since his selection in the fifth round of the 2008 draft.Looking backIt was 43 years ago Tuesday Feb. 21, 1969 that the Royals conducted the first spring workout in franchise history.
