For the first time, Metropolitan Community College is offering instruction in Cass County that could result in an associate degree.
Classes begin tonight at the Belton High School Freshman Center.Because MCC-Longview, the most southern campus in the local community college system, has a large number of Cass County students enrolled at its Lee’s Summit campus, MCC administrators thought it would be best to offer some courses closer to the students in Belton. “The backstory is that Cass County residents and county and city leaders have, for a while now, been expressing interest in having MCC provide college classes at a location within the county,” MCC spokeswoman Mary Birkel said in a statement. “We’re excited to be making this happen.” Belton’s mayor and schools superintendent and MCC’s chancellor are scheduled to be in attendance to greet the students.Read more Local News Spotlight
