Parents dont typically turn a blind eye to their little ones eating paint or crayons.
But Wee Can Too (weecantooart.com) has developed edible art supplies that allow babies and toddlers to explore their inner Picasso. And parents dont have to worry if the kids put their hands into their mouths. The companys products include paint, sidewalk chalk and crayons made completely from food-based, organic ingredients. Think spinach, blueberries or beets mixed with things such as rice cereal or rice flour. The products are also vegan and contain no wheat, sugar or preservatives. I love that the product is nontoxic and organic, says Nicole Turner of Smithville. Her 1-year-old daughter, Reese, uses the paints at day care. Mandy McDonnell of Overland Park said her 1-year-old son Joel recently played with and tasted the yellow crayon from Wee Can Too made with pumpkin and turmeric. Joel likes to put everything in his mouth, she says. I like that he doesnt have to press hard with the crayons, and the colors really come through. Wee Can Too, which was launched in 2007 in Eugene, Ore., recently started manufacturing part of its product line in Lawrence. Co-founder Nichole Groat of Overland Park says she hopes to move all of its manufacturing to Lawrence in the coming year. The line is sold at more than 50 retailers nationwide and locally at Mommy Shop, 14870 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park. You also can order locally through Vanny Bean, vannybean.com, and Teeny Greeny, teenygreenykc.com. Finger paints generally run $35 for a set of five. Crayons and chalk start at $11 for a set of five. Wee Can Too also sells grab-and-go mixtures that you can make yourself.Read more Green Home
