The architect of Olathe North’s football dynasty has returned to his roots.
The Olathe School Board approved Gene Wier as the Eagles’ football coach Thursday night at the monthly board meeting, Olathe North athletic director Jason Herman confirmed.An official release from the board and Olathe North wasn’t expected until this morning, but Wier will take over the Eagles for a second tenure. Wier was head coach at Olathe North from 1981 to 2002 before taking over the Richland (Texas) program for the last nine seasons.He compiled a 188-36 record and led the Eagles to six Kansas 6A state titles, taking a pair of three-peats during 1996-98 and 2000-02. Wier, who went 42-51 in nine seasons in Texas, replaces Pete Flood, who went 51-16 and won the 6A title in 2009 during his six-year run with the Eagles.Read more High School
