The Chicago Bears have reached an agreement with Phil Emery to become the team’s fifth general manager in franchise history.

Emery has spent 14 seasons in the NFL, including the last three as the Chiefs’ director of college scouting.

This will be Emery’s second stint with the Bears after working as an area scout for the franchise during 1998-2004.

During that time the Bears drafted Pro Bowlers in wide receiver Marty Booker (third round in 1999), kick returner Jerry Azumah (fifth round, 1999), linebacker Brian Urlacher (first round, 2000), safety Mike Brown (second round, 2000), cornerback Charles Tillman (second round, 2003), linebacker Lance Briggs (third round, 2003), defensive tackle Tommie Harris (first round, 2004) and cornerback Nathan Vasher (fourth round, 2004). Chicago won the NFC Central in 2001.

His three drafts with the Chiefs have produced one Pro Bowler, safety Eric Berry in 2010.

Emery served as the director of college scouting for the Atlanta Falcons during 2004-08. Two of the three Falcons’ first-round draft picks during that time developed into Pro Bowlers: wide receiver Roddy White (2005) and quarterback Matt Ryan (2008).

Patriots director of pro personnel Jason Licht was the Bears’ other finalist for the job.
