A Blue Springs youth soccer coach was charged Friday with child molestation and sodomy for inappropriate touching of two girls on his team.
Prosecutors also charged Richard Burroughs, 43, with sexual assault.The incidents allegedly occurred at Burroughs home. One girl, 12, told police that in October, Burroughs put his hand down her pants when he thought she was asleep during a sleepover with the coachs daughter, who also plays on the team.The other alleged victim, an 11-year-old girl, told police that at an end-of-season party in November, the coach asked whether she wanted to see something on his computer and then rubbed his hand down her front.The two girls shared their stories with each other New Years Eve and decided to tell a school counselor.Burroughs was picked up Thursday by police. During questioning, he denied both incidents, saying all he did with the first girl was cover her with a blanket, according to court documents.When a detective asked whether he could look at his computer, Burroughs got quiet and appeared nervous, according to court documents. He then said he would consult an attorney.The mother of one of the victims told police that Burroughs had coached his daughter for several years and also coached softball.Bond was set at $125,000, cash only. Burroughs is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.Read more News
