HEALTH CODE VIOLATIONS

Restaurant health code violations

More News

Here are restaurants with several critical health code violations, and two food operations temporarily closed because of health code issues.

Most critical violations are corrected at the time of the inspection.

Food service operations recently inspected by the Environmental Health Division of the Jackson County Public Works Department with three or more critical violations included:

•  Peking Express, 12130 Blue Ridge Blvd., Grandview, had three critical violations during a Jan. 18 inspection. They included chicken, eggrolls, and cooked rice on the prep table under no form of temperature control. A manager told the inspector the food was on the table less than two hours so the food was moved to a cooler.

“We were cooking the order and hadn’t had a chance to take the food back to the cooler. We made a mistake and corrected it at the time the inspector came by,” said Hung Phan, son of the owner.

•  Westside Grill and Bar, 221 S. Missouri 291, Lee’s Summit, had three critical violations during a Jan. 17 inspection. They included sanitizer in a three-compartment sink not at the proper level.

The owners did not return phone calls.

The Kansas City Health Department temporarily closed two area Cold Stone Creamery operations on Jan. 20 for operating illegally without a food services permit.

The stores are in Zona Rosa, 7250 N.W. 86th Terrace, and on the Country Club Plaza, 114 W. 47th St. The shops went through a change of ownership in November 2011. According to the Health Department, the corporate office was notified in December that they were not to operate those locations until all the proper paperwork had been submitted and a pre-operational inspection occurred at both locations.

The stores needed to be inspected and submit all proper paperwork, and have the paperwork approved before they could reopen.

A company spokesman sent this statement: “There was some miscommunication regarding paperwork with the Health Department during the transition of ownership in both of the locations.… The Country Club Plaza location filed the correct paperwork, was approved and is currently open. The Zona Rosa location has submitted all necessary paperwork and is waiting for final approval and we hope for it to be open before the weekend.”

The Zona Rosa shop also put a sign on its front door saying it was closed because of mechanical problems; the Plaza location’s sign just said temporarily closed.

As for the Zona Rosa’s mechanical issues, the company said: “Since the store was already closed due to the paperwork issue, we took the time to upgrade some equipment that would require the store to close anyway.”
