• Key stat: K-States bench outscored Texas Techs team 24-20.Second half • Key play: Texas Tech opened the second half with the chance at a break-away layup but couldnt convert. Its best chance at gaining momentum was wasted. • Key stat: Three of Texas Techs starters didnt score.Nice returnThe last time Victor Ojeleye was inside United Spirit Arena, he wasnt able to play. Not because he wasnt performing well enough in practices to deserve minutes late in a blowout win, but because he was an unselfish teammate. Former starter Curtis Kelly busted one of his shoes early in that game two years ago, and Ojeleye volunteered to trade shoes with him so he could continue playing. The nice gesture was rewarded on Wednesday. The senior walk-on scored a season high eight points and was a major contributor in the first half. K-State coach Frank Martin said Ojeleye has established himself as a player he can turn to in difficult times. Ojeleye was simply happy to help. Its just a blessing, thats what I attribute it to, Ojeleye said. Its a lot of fun to be able to be out here and be with the guys and have so much fun in the locker room and be able to contribute in a win. • Of K-States five starters, Jamar Samuels contributed the least. The senior forward fouled out after 14 minutes of action without producing a single positive stat and committing two turnovers. But Will Spradling didnt perform much better. The sophomore guard scored two points and grabbed three rebounds in 22 minutes. • By playing well in the first half, the top of K-States bench helped build a big enough lead for seldom-used players Shawn Meyer, Brian Rohleder and Omari Lawrence to enter the game late. Lawrence score on a free throw, giving him his fifth point of the season.Read more Kansas State University
