A two-state high speed police chase that reached speeds of 100 mph ended safely when suspects stopped and were arrested in Kansas City, Kan., this afternoon.
The incident started about 1:45 p.m. in the area of 27th Street and Prospect Avenue in Kansas City. Initially, the suspects were only being tailed by a police helicopter as they headed south on U.S. 71, speeding and driving on the shoulder to pass other traffic. Because they were driving recklessly, police determined that they posed a risk to public safety, and officers began pursuing the suspects on the ground. The suspects drove south on U.S. 71 then west on Interstate 435 into Kansas. Kansas Highway Patrol troopers became involved in the pursuit as the suspects’ car reached 90 to 100 mph. They headed north on 435 into Kansas City, Kan., where officers from that city got involved. The suspects turned off the interstate and headed east on Parallel Parkway, running several red lights before pulling over at 47th Street and surrendering about 2:20 p.m.Authorities arrested all three occupants in the car.Read more Breaking News
