The Kansas State basketball team will be without Jordan Henriquez when it takes on Oklahoma State on Saturday, and possibly beyond.

Henriquez, a junior forward, has been suspended indefinitely by the Wildcats for what coach Frank Martin classified as “conduct detrimental to the team.”

“He’s a fine young man that needs to refocus on all the positive things that he has done here for two years,” Martin said. “He just needs a moment away so he can regain the vision that he had when he came here.”

Henriquez averaged 7.1 points and 5.1 rebounds in K-State’s first 17 games. He started six of them, and has been one of the Wildcats top low-post presences. But his production fell off over the past week.

In his last two games, he played eight minutes and scored a combined three points.

Martin said Henriquez will not practice with K-State while he serves his suspension. They will meet next week to discuss his status with the team. Henriquez’s absence could be a blow to the Wildcats’ front line.

“Every post has to step it up now,” freshman big man Thomas Gipson said.

Martin is confident in his team’s abilities without Henriquez.

“It’s irrelevant,” Martin said. “We pretty much won last night (against Texas) without his help, so it’s irrelevant.”
