He gave freshman guard Angel Rodriguez his first start in place of Martavious Irving and went with freshman forward Thomas Gipson over Jordan Henriquez. The move paid dividends early. K-State rushed to leads of 12-7 and 36-21. Rodriguez went on to score four points, while Gipson scored 11.• Redshirt freshman Nino Williams watched Wednesday’s game from the bench in street clothes. Martin said Williams had come down awkwardly under the basket in practice Monday and suffered what he said was “a severely sprained MCL.” Williams will undergo a MRI this week and will be out at least two weeks, Martin said.
