Wooden utensils possess character with their grain-patterned patina. But it’s rare for them to also feature characters.
French comic books inspired the new Pop Art utensil collection by Talisman Designs of Minneapolis. Images of ladies and gents are lasered onto spatulas, salad forks, spreaders and mixing spoons. The utensils are made of beechwood from a sustainably managed European forest and are safe to use with nonstick cookware. The etched images shouldn’t fade, according to Alecia Irgens of Talisman. To preserve the natural oil finish, it’s recommended that the pieces are hand washed.Due out later this year are cheese boards and mini condiment spoons also etched with characters who possess a certain je ne sais quoi. The wooden utensils add a bit of kookiness to cookie baking and also make an unexpected host gift for winter dinner parties.
