If you ever flip through the catalog from Uncommon Goods (or search its online marketplace), you may come across the ceramic works of Kansas City artist Amy Meya.

She sells her handmade clay vases — which have a signature bird and rosette leaf design — through the company.

Meya, a self-taught artist, says nature inspires her.

That inspiration can be seen in the holiday ornament line she sells through Stuff, 316 W. 63rd St. in Brookside.

Meya’s colorful, glazed “Message Birds” each hold a statement such as “explore,” “peace” and “love.” The ornaments are $15. Stuff also sells Meya’s wall tiles and her newest undertaking, clay jewelry.

Her bird theme took hold after planting a row of giant sunflowers with her sons in their small, midtown yard. The flowers reached up to their living room windows and the family would watch cardinals and goldfinches land and eat the seed.

“I hope that a message of appreciation and conservation of nature comes across,” Meya says about her work.
