The Hawklets, 3-1, won the season-opening McDonald’s Tournament at Blue Springs on the strength of their deep and physical rotation of players. But Jones, a senior combo guard, provided the scoring touch, averaging 13.3 points per game over three games. He also had 26 points in a 60-58 loss to Lee’s Summit West on Monday. Jones and Rockhurst take on Olathe Northwest on Saturday night at the Hy-Vee Shootout. “If he doesn’t get to the hole, he’s gonna get fouled, and he’s a great free-throw shooter.” Rockhurst coach Mark Nusbaum said.

Who needs Natalie Knight when you’ve got Kylee Kopatich? All Kopatich, a 5-foot-10 freshman guard, did in her first full week as a Falcon was win MVP honors after pacing coach Steve Ingram’s squad to a seventh straight title at the Olathe South Girls Basketball Invitational. She scored 20 points in a 87-43 rout Monday against Leavenworth and pumped in 16 points a day later in a 82-17 win against Sumner. Battling rival Olathe East for the tourney title on Friday, Kopatich again led South with 19 points and added four rebounds and two steals in a 57-42 win.
