The Royals refuted reports Monday of a pending deal to sell the naming rights to Kauffman Stadium through an official statement:
Amid a variety of reports that the Royals were nearing an announcement today, we felt it necessary to address the situation. Since the renovations were completed prior to the 2009 season, our organization has been open to listening to proposals with regards to a naming rights partner, but at this time no agreement has come to fruition. With that said, there is nothing else to comment on regarding naming rights.Reaction to a possible name change to the stadium, which currently honors franchise founder Ewing Kauffman, spread quickly following a Channel 41 report saying an announcement could come as soon as today.Terms of the franchises 25-year lease with Jackson County, signed in 2006, permit the Royals to sell naming rights to the stadium.Even if no deal is imminent, the likelihood of one in the future looms as an increasingly likely possibility. That is due, in part, to the potential name-association benefit accruing from the All-Star Game, which will be played July 10, 2012, at the stadium.Read more Royals
