Four Royals prospects picked for Arizona Fall League all-star game

Interested in getting a first-hand assessment on outfielder Wil Myers, picked recently by The Star as the top prospect in the Royals’ system? Your chance comes Saturday when MLB Network airs the Arizona Fall League’s Rising Stars Game.

Myers is one of four Royals prospects on the list of 50 players selected Tuesday to appear in the game, which takes place at 7:10 p.m. Central time at the Royals’ spring home – Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Ariz.

Infielder Christian Colon and right-handed pitchers Nate Adcock and Jeremy Jeffress were also selected. All four play for the Surprise Saguaros in the six-team AFL.

Myers, 20, is putting a strong finish on an injury-slowed season – batting .367 in 16 Fall League games with a .506 on-base percentage and a .700 slugging percentage. He also has 11 extra-base hits, including three homers, and 14 RBIs.

Colon, 22, was the fourth overall pick in the 2010 draft. He is batting .280 with a .357 on-base percentage in 12 games after batting .257 in 127 games at Class AA Northwest Arkansas.

Adcock, 23, was 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA while spending the entire season in the majors following his selection last December from Pittsburgh in the Rule 5 Draft. He is 1-2 in three AFL starts while allowing 10 runs and 16 hits in 11 1/3 innings.

Jeffress, 24, spent most of the season in the minors after opening the season in the big leagues. He has allowed four earned runs in 7 2/3 innings while striking out 11.

The Fall League is operated by Major League Baseball as a means to provide a “finishing school” for top prospects. It operates from Oct. 4 through Nov. 17. The roster for this year’s All-Star Game contained 41 AFL alumni.
