Sporting news: Injury crisis hits, Vote White Puma

Two more Sporting Kansas City players joined the ranks of the walking wounded today, as young defender Daneil Cyrus will miss the rest of 2011 with a fractured foot and is reporting Luke Sassano will miss four-to-six weeks with a sprained MCL.

Cyrus joins defender Aurelien Collin on the sideline, leaving KC extremely shallow in central defense. The only healthy players with CB experience are Matt Besler, Julio Cesar and Shavar Thomas. (It's worth noting: Thomas hasn't played since May and the team allowed him to trial with Portsmouth late last month.) I suppose, in a pinch, Birahim Diop could play back there -- though, I don't think that's a good option.

Are more moves not he way? During the reserves game on Monday, former KC draft pick Nick Cardenas was a guest trialist and played 90 minutes at centerback. Also, former KC Wizard Nick Garcia has trained with the team this year. Both could be short-term (low-cost) fixes.

Sassano's injury is a tough one, as he had to earn his way onto the team this year after suffering an ankle injury in the offseason. He had been used primarily as a substitute of late.

• The rest of KC's injury report: Davy Arnaud (sports hernia surgery), Aurelien Collin (lower back fracture), Craig Rocastle (knee sprain) and Konrad Warzycha (knee surgery) are all listed as "out."

To top it off, designated player Jeferson is listed as probable with a quad strain.

• The good news? According to the team's Twitter, Arnaud returned to training today and Rocastle
