Moran, Roberts cheer decision to make McConnell Air Force Base home for tankers

Kansas Sens. Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts on Wednesday cheered the Air Force’s decision to pick McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita as the home for new refueling tankers. The Air Force will make an official announcement later Wednesday morning after it informs the congressional delegations from the states involved of the decisions.

Judge halts closing of Gordon Parks Elementary School

Gordon Parks Elementary School can remain open at least through June. A circuit court judge on Tuesday granted a temporary stay sought by the school after state education officials voted last week to pull the school’s charter.

The Royals sent their ace, James Shields, to the mound in Wednesday’s finale and, as usually happens when James Shields pitches, their attack turtled and resulted in a 3-1 loss to the Houston Astros.

Mike Moustakas termed it “a relief” when he broke a zero-for-18 slide with an RBI single Tuesday night, but he also recognized it for what it was. “One hit is not going to do anything. It’s not going to completely turn anything around, but it was a hit in a big situation for us.”

Clearwire Corp. board approves Sprint Nextel’s higher bid

The approval of a $3.40-a-share bid followed the board’s previous approval of a $2.97-a-share deal. A statement said the board determined Sprint’s offer is the “most favorable potential transaction” for the investors who own about 49 percent of Clearwire.
