Health Department temporarily closes Independence Ave. restaurant
The Kansas City Health Department temporarily closed Jubaland Grill, 1315 Independence Ave., during a routine inspection Friday because of rodent infestation and insufficient capacity for cold-holding of food.
During the inspection a mouse ran through the inspector's legs in the kitchen restroom.
An employee stated that it had been at least six months since the last pest control service.
Officials with the restaurant could not be reached for comment.
The establishment must demonstrate effective pest control is in place and correct the cold holding situation before they may request a reinspection to be re-opened.
As this facility is the base commissary for the Juba mobile unit, this closure includes that mobile unit.
Neither Jubaland Grill nor the Juba Mobile Unit may prepare, serve or sell food until re-opened by the Health Department.
