Sporting KC to appeal suspension for CollinCharles Gooch
The Kansas City Star
Sporting Kansas City will appeal the red-card suspension for defender Aurelien Collin, who was ejected from Saturday night's game after an altercation with New England's goalkeeper. The league is expected to make a decision by mid-week.
According to Major League Soccer, an automatic one-game suspension for a red card cannot be appealed or rescinded, except in a case of mistaken identity. This would appear to fall under that rule.
The altercation occurred after Collin committed a hard but legal challenge on New England's Matt Reis. Several Revolution players surrounded Collin and Reis who were laying on the ground. As Collin stood up his teammate, Birahim Diop, reached across his shoulder to push New England's Benny Feilhaber away; Feilhaber crumpled to the ground.
Referee Edvin Jurisevic issued the card to Collin, who had already been shown a yellow card in the game.
