The CONCACAF Gold Cup schedule was released Tuesday, and Kansas City one of 11 U.S. cities scheduled to host Gold Cup games this year will be the site of a first-round showdown between the U.S. mens national team and Guadaloupe on June 14 at Sporting KCs new stadium in KCK.
I think it first proves that with the advent of our new stadium, what kind of competition it will bring to Kansas City, Sporting KC coach Peter Vermes said in a statement. I think its a proven fact now that having one of the best soccer stadiums in North America, we'll be getting more and more competitions like this, so I think it's not only exciting for this time period, but for the future as well.
This will mark the first time in 10 years that the U.S. mens national team will play in Kansas City. It last played here in 2001, when it faced Costa Rica in a World Cup qualifier at Arrowhead Stadium.
The game, which is scheduled for 8 p.m., will also be preceded by a matchup between Panama and Canada at 6 p.m.
Tickets will go on sale on March 16. For more information, visit www.SportingKC.com/virtualvenue.
