10. Return of the Comets
It might not be the Kansas City Comets... and they might not play at Kemper anymore... and they might play in a league with only five teams... and the team isn't off to a great start, just 1-5 so far... and the luster of indoor soccer may have faded a bit... but those hot winter nights are back in Kansas City. 9. A trophy for some local ladies
It might not have registered in the mainstream KC media -- heck, it barely registered here on The Stars soccer-specific blog-type thing until the Final Four -- but five Kansas City ladies were a part of the Notre Dame side that won the NCAA Womens College Cup. From left to right: Lauren Fowlkes, Ellen Jantsch, Molly Campbell and Elizabeth Wilson attended St. Teresas Academy and Mandy Laddish attended Lees Summit. Fowlkes and Laddish were All-Americans this year.
8. Kamaras miss of the century
Fair warning: Not everything on this list will be positive. Kei Kamaras attempt on a sloppy April night will probably go down as the Miss Mocked Round The World. British newspapers had fun with it. Blogs had fun with it. Pretty much anyone with fingers to type made fun of it. It's understandable. It was a horrible miss. A couple of video-specific thoughts: 1) Announcer Dave Borchardt should be commended for not completely losing his mind about the situation and 2) Jack Jewsbury's pass to spring Davy Arnaud was absolutely gorgeous. The no goal would haunt KC for a while and would stand as sort of an extended metaphor for the team from April through July: Every time the team had a chance to score, theyd slip.Coming later: A new promise ...
