WHAT DO PEOPLE THINK OF ME?
" 'He's a very confident person and he's handsome ... and where's he going' "GeoRell Bullock admits it gets to him when people judge before they know him. Some people think youre a bad person, and youre not, says GeoRell, 15, a freshman at Van Horn High School in Independence. They judge either the color of your skin or how you look on the outside. But then he grins and gives it a positive spin. Pretty sure of himself.Maybe it makes me more confident about myself to prove them wrong, he says, his soft-spoken voice making him seem much younger than his age. I want to show people who I am if they want to be like that.Reserved, GeoRell livens up once he gets to know someone. Then he can be a nonstop talker, entertainer. He stands around 5 feet, 2 inches and likes football. GeoRell also throws himself into other activities.Hes a member of the Urban Rangers Corps for job and leadership training, and he competes in BMX racing. And he can be a walking sports trivia machine. Name a player and he can rattle off some statistics.Right now, though, he says grades are his biggest focus. His mom makes sure of that.If I make a C, shell be on me like nothing, GeoRell says. Shell put me in tutoring and all that.Nija Bullock doesnt disagree. Cs dont get you into college, she says. You have to go to college and make something of yourself so you dont have to work like a dog, Nija says. We talk about that.
