DATING DIARIES

    P A M E L A    S P E N C E R

I'm a native of Michigan and have been single for almost a year since ending a four-year relationship. After dating a few freaks and losers in Kansas City, I'm on a dating hiatus. I'm a journalist in Kansas City.

DIARY: I met a guy recently and it got me thinking, I could like him. But I don't really. Why do I do this to myself? I was thinking, he's cute, he's successful and single, which is saying a lot in Kansas City. But I need to raise my standards. I am not dating any boy I feel lukewarm about. » Read more of Pamela's Diary      Contact Aaron Barnhart at: • 816-234-4790 • Aaron Barnhart's recent columns • Go to TVBarn.com • E-mail Aaron Barnhart     C H R I S     I N    O L A T H E

SWM, 33, a transplant from Michigan recently back on the singles scene. I know what I'm looking for; I just haven't found it yet. Are there so few smart, personable, attractive, single women in KC? Actually, I think they're out there, we just haven't met yet. It certainly hasn't been for a lack of looking, but maybe not in the right place.

DIARY: So it begins. An average guy in Kansas City, fresh on the singles scene, throwing his thoughts and experiences with dating out there for everyone to read. You can spare the "Sex and the Kansas City" jokes, the friends back home already have that covered. I'm not exactly sure where this will go in the coming weeks, but I'm sure I'll have fun with it. » Read more of Chris' Diary

When I'm not trying to find excitement in relationships, I enjoy running outdoors, listening to live music and reading. I'm a mid-20s professional. I've never been married and not in a terrible rush to do so. I'm single, happy and in love with who I am and what I do.

DIARY: Do Kansas City women need to outsource men to find a good date? Studies show that there are hardly any places to meet singles and very few single people in Kansas City. That makes me wonder. How long will it be until I've dated every available guy? Are there women in Kansas City that have tapped out all of the men in the dating pool? » Read more of Morena's Diary      Contact Aaron Barnhart at: • 816-234-4790 • Aaron Barnhart's recent columns • Go to TVBarn.com • E-mail Aaron Barnhart

I have been single since June, but that was a short-lived relationship, six months to be exact. I've never been married. I have lived in Kansas City for seven years and have found dating to be a bit challenging, but I know there is someone fabulous here...I just have to find him!

DIARY: Let me introduce myself. I am a 33 year old white female who has never been married (5'9", blonde hair, blue eyes) and am looking for a motivated, sensible man who makes me laugh. That shouldn't be too hard to find, right? Well, then please direct me to where these men are located and available in the Greater Kansas City area.

I've been in Kansas City for eight years, and for the past four I've been single. I'm a divorcee (no kids) with a master's degree in business and accounting and a job at a big wireless corporation. In my spare time I play guitar, and my favorite TV shows include "Chappelle's Show" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm." My dating experiences have generally been good. I try to enjoy the ride.

DIARY: Another exciting night on the dating scene. Met some buddies at Fuel for drinks and who knew what else. Wound up meeting a racy dark-haired attorney. One of my buddies and the attorney's friend hit it off. When the bar closed, they invited us back to their place for drinks. » Read more of Steve's Diary      Contact Aaron Barnhart at: • 816-234-4790 • Aaron Barnhart's recent columns • Go to TVBarn.com • E-mail Aaron Barnhart     J A C I N T H E

Thirtysomething, single lesbian, longtime resident of Kansas City. I work in the professional, hetero world by day and take in culture and diversity on the weekends, as needed. Recently I have been thinking about pursuing a romantic relationship but am realizing just how particular I am. Sometimes it truly feels like I am living in a Seinfeld episode.

DIARY: "They got some crazy little women there, and I'm a-gonna get me one." Or so the Kansas City anthem goes. I have been searching for several years, not really for a crazy little Kansas City woman, but instead, for Ms. Right. Admittedly, I have not looked very diligently. My attitude has mostly been, "If it happens, it happens, and it often happens when you least expect it." » Read more of Jacinthe's Diary

I'm a Kansas City-based writer, editor and communications specialist. I have worked for a range of regional and national publications, including ESPN the Magazine and The New York Times on the Web. I also write lots of corporate content, which doesn't sound nearly as impressive but does pay the bills. I'm single, well into my 30s and never once been within a country mile of marriage.

DIARY: Dating is evil. Granted, that might sound odd coming from someone dubbed a Dating Diarist. Nevertheless, dating is evil. More specifically, dating is a ruthless, grueling, dehumanizing ritual about as likely to create a satisfying connection between two human beings as Mike Brown is to be elected Mayor of New Orleans.

James is 24 and works at Missie B's in midtown. He's a bar back there and does lighting and videography for shows. He is public relations coordinator for the Lesbian and Gay Community Center (on Westport Road) and communications director for Kansas City Gay Pride, both volunteer positions. He's single after a recent breakup.

DIARY: I also volunteer my time for KC Gay Pride. Many people think Pride is just a two- or three-day event, but for many of us who serve on the board of directors, it is a year-round event that takes months of fundraising and planning. Pride *should* be a year-round thing ... not only for me personally, but for the entire community. Once Kansas City figures that out, we will become a better community, more united than ever working for one cause.
