Several area restaurants have shut down in the last week.

•Less than six months after opening in The Legends at Village West, Cleat’z Sportz Bar and Grill has closed.

Solz Entertainment Complex planned to bring together four different operations in the 16,000-square-foot space at 1867 Village West Parkway, Suite D101, Kansas City, Kan.

The operations were to have opened over three phases this year, all with shoe-themed names with creative spellings — Flip-Flop’z Beach Bash, Spur’z Rock N Saloon and Stilleto’z, a dueling piano bar/martini bar.

•Sol Azteca Mexican Grill has closed temporarily.

A sign on the door of the restaurant, at 542 Southwest Blvd., says major repairs must be made and it hopes to reopen Jan. 20.

In 2006, workers filed complaints against Sol Azteca and Dos Reales, and their owner, Alvaro Quezada, for violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act. To settle the case, Quezada agreed in 2006 to a three-year payment plan totaling $287,000.

•Outback Steakhouse has closed its location at 6870 Johnson Drive.

Callers are being referred to the Overland Park location at 9501 Quivira Road, which is less than eight miles away. As an added incentive, the Overland Park location is giving away a coupon for a free appetizer.

Company officials couldn’t be reached for comment, but a restaurant manager said the company streamlines operations to concentrate on the best locations.

Outback Steakhouse offers such items as steaks, prime rib, chops, ribs, chicken, seafood, and pasta.

Now open

Diners might think they dropped into a New York bistro when walking into the new 715. The European-style neighborhood eatery at 715 Massachusetts St. in Lawrence features small-town central Italian cuisine created by chef-owner Michael Beard.

It offers a cafe-style breakfast with espresso and pastries, and full-service lunch and dinner. Menu items include pizza, panini, salads, pasta, steaks, rainbow trout and braised rabbit. It is open daily from 7:15 a.m. to midnight.

Cityscape runs Tuesdays and Fridays. To reach Joyce Smith, call 816-234-4692 or send e-mail to jsmith@kcstar.com.
