The Pie Five Pizza Co. which sells individual pizzas made to order and cooked in five minutes has picked a place for its first area location. Pie Five plans to open later this summer at 13366 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park.

Smooth J Cafe plans to open by August in the Shops at Corporate Woods, 9940 College Blvd., Overland Park. The Smooth J name stands for Smooth Jazz and fast-casual restaurant will feature live music by smooth jazz artists.

Potbelly Sandwich Shop will open its first area location on the Country Club Plaza this week. The restaurant, at 4725 Broadway, officially opens on June 4. However, it will have an oven warming from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. June 3.
Call it build-a- beer. The new Brew Lab in downtown Overland Park will sell supplies and equipment for brewing beer at home. But it also will have brewing stations set up on-site so customers can make their beer at Brew Lab with professionals to help guide them.

Cocoa Dolce Artisan Chocolates plans to open a new store in Prairiefire, an upscale center under development at 135th Street and Nall Avenue. The 1,800-square-foot store is scheduled to open in March 2014.
Kansas City barista Pete Licata got a taste of international glory over the weekend. Licata, the quality assurance manager at Parisi Artisan Coffee in Kansas City, won the 2013 World Barista Championship on Sunday in Melbourne, Australia.

A 60,000-square-foot building in Merriam initially planned for a Circuit City electronics store will be razed and replaced by an Ikea home furnishing store that will be about six times as large.
More than three years after it closed, Westport mainstay The Corner Restaurant has been resurrected in the same spot but with new owners, a new decor and new menu. Executive chef Natasha Sears said the kitchen uses many local vendors, and makes about 90 percent of the menu from scratch on-site.
Oak Park Mall said it has signed local fast-casual chain Ingredient for its food court. Menu items include salads, grilled sandwiches, soups, wraps and panini, burgers, and gourmet pizzas.
The neighborhood movie theater may be making a comeback in a new combination of theaters and upscale restaurant under one roof. Standees-The Entertaining Eatery will open to the public May 24 in the Village shopping center in Prairie Village. The owners hope to expand to other markets in the Kansas City area and the region.
