Plaza-area Ruth’s Chris Steak House will close March 23

Nearly two decades after entering the Kansas City market, Ruth’s Chris Steak House plans to close March 23. The famed chain opened in a former On the Border location in the Plaza Steppes, 700 W. 47th St., in 1997. The space was extensively remodeled for a clubby feel.

Westport’s new champagne bar opens today

A new Westport bar will specialize in champagne cocktails and boutique wines from France, Italy, Spain and the United States. Ça Va plans a soft opening at 5 p.m. at 4149 Pennsylvania Ave.

City Market’s The Bite opens Friday

The new City Market restaurant plans to open at 10:30 a.m. Friday at 23 E. Third St. It will have about a dozen signature toasted sandwiches, build-your-own tamales, and gourmet ice cream sandwiches.

Jefferson’s restaurant to open in Olathe’s Ridgeview Plaza

It has signed a lease for the former Johnny Brusco’s New York Style Pizza space in Ridgeview Plaza, 10540 S. Ridgeview Road, Olathe. An April opening is scheduled. Jefferson’s is known for its wings and oysters, but the menu also includes specialty burgers, entree salads, chicken fingers and more.

Leawood’s Park Place adds high-end sunglass shop

Nearly a decade after opening Romanelli Optix, the owners have added a high-end sunglass store. Unlike many sunglass shops, the new Romanelli Sun Galleria at 5261 W. 116th Place, in the Park Place development, sells activewear sunglasses alongside luxury sunglasses.

Gladstone’s new Diego’s Bar & Grill closes

Less than three months after opening, Diego’s Bar & Grill has closed in the Northland. Ivan Marquez and Marco Diaz opened Diego’s in early December at 6024 N.E. Antioch Road, Suite B, in Gladstone, but Marquez had a heart attack shortly before the restaurant opened.

More coffee shops are brewing in the Crossroads

Douglas and Jalene Berger are selling the Crossroads Coffeehouse at 310 Southwest Blvd. to the Topeka-based PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. A year after opening their wholesale coffee-roasting company, the owners of Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters are gearing up for their first coffee shop at 419 E. 18th St., next to Grinders.

Kansas City Hotdog Emporium & Coffee Shop opens downtown

The shop is having a grand opening today at 324 E. 11th St., Suite 102. Along with hot dogs, the menu includes sandwiches like the pot roast, the pulled pork, the “Pilgrim” (fresh cut roasted turkey smothered in gravy and topped with cranberry chutney and arugula), egg salad, tuna salad, and Sloppy Joes.

Blanc Burgers + Bottles returns to Westport

Blanc Burgers + Bottles plans to reopen in Westport next week. Aaron Mulder, corporate executive chef for Circle Restaurant Group, parent company of Blanc, said the new restaurant is scheduled to open at 11 a.m. Monday.

PT’s Coffee Roasting Co. to open Crossroads coffee shop

The Topeka-based company is taking over the Crossroads Coffeehouse at 310 Southwest Blvd. PT’s plans to keep all 10 Crossroads Coffeehouse employees. But it is bringing in Second Life Studios to make some interior design changes and also will tweak the menu, including serving its own brand of coffees.

Halls in Crown Center transitions to Halls on Grand

The department store, which has operated in Crown Center since 1973, is scheduled to temporarily close Feb. 23 and is having a consolidation sale. It will reopen in September in a new 60,000-square-foot space on the third level of Crown Center Shops at 2450 Grand Blvd. The Plaza Halls store, at 211 Nichols Road, is scheduled to close Aug. 3.

Burnt End BBQ moves in Overland Park

The barbecue, burgers and beer operation got its start in 2011 at 11240 W. 135th St. But while its catering operation was strong there, the restaurant wasn’t getting enough foot traffic. So the company moved it to one of the busiest intersections of the city — 119th Street and Metcalf Avenue.
