Poetry and more coming to new Crossroads venue, the Vibe

The Vibe is scheduled to open in early May at 404 E. 18th St., near Grinders. It will feature weekly poetry events as well as karaoke on Thursday nights and out-of-town comedians on a monthly basis. It also will serve wine, beer, cocktails and appetizers.

Cinder Block Brewery now offering ciders

North Kansas City’s new breweries are already expanding. The Cinder Block Brewery has added cider to its menu, and the Big Rip Brewing Co. has doubled its brewing capacity and plans to add a beer garden next month. In other news, a new barbecue restaurant called Q39 is set to join 39th Street’s restaurant row in April.

Drive-through grocery coming to Olathe in April

Customers at Zoomin Market in Olathe will be able to place their orders online and then pull up in a drive-through lane where employees will load up their groceries. In other news, the new Merriam Ikea sparks more commercial development. Restaurants close in Overland Park and Kansas City, Kan.

Revel, a new traveling bar, brings drinks to customers

Eddie Crane, the former owner of the Drop in Martini Corner, and his partner, Simone Snellink, have started Revel — Traveling Bar & Events, bringing the bar to their customers. In other news, Raygun, a shop that screen-prints T-shirts, notebooks, posters and coasters, is coming to the Crossroads.

These establishments were cited for 7 or more critical or priority health code violations: Corner Grill, El Camaroncito, J’s Fish & Chicken Market, Taqueria Mexico, Balls Price Chopper, Banadir Grocery, Bonito Michoacan, Cosentino’s Price Chopper, Ixtapa Fine Mexican Grill, Nick’s Italian Pizza, and Villa Capri.

New Thai restaurant for the Crossroads

For nearly 30 years a restaurant space at 1513 Grand Blvd. offered Thai food. Now a new owner is updating the space for a new Thai restaurant. Steve Srivisay plans to open S-E Asia Bistro at 1513 Grand Blvd. in May. It will have a short menu that will include authentic cuisine from Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos.

Q39 barbecue sets April opening on 39th Street

Rob Magee spent three decades working in food and beverage for top area hotels. But on the side he entered and won barbecue championships across the country. Now he’s ready to showcase his passion in a new barbecue restaurant called Q39, scheduled to open in early April.

Wil Jenny’s closing in south Overland Park

The restaurant opened nearly eight years ago at 6700 W. 135th St. But the owners want to concentrate on expanding their Nick & Jake’s concept. A Nick & Jake’s is set to open next month just south of the Country Club Plaza.

The Bite offers gourmet sandwiches and ice cream sandwiches

The Bite is not your average sandwich shop. The new shop at 23 E. Third St. in the City Market is offering about a dozen signature toasted sandwiches, including the Bay of Pigs and the Sloppy. In other news, St. Louis-based Kaldi’s Coffee taking over six Kansas City-area Latteland coffee shops.

McDonald’s plans to open near new Merriam Ikea

McDonald’s wants to open a new restaurant on the former Papa John’s site at 8915 Johnson Drive, Merriam. Hobby Lobby also wants open in the Merriam Village development and sites for two to three more restaurants or retailers are available. The 359,000-square-foot Ikea store is set to open this fall.
