Jeff Gourley is headed to Olathe South as its new football coach.
Gourley, who led Belton to the Missouri Class 5 title game last season and a 9-4 record, will take over the Falcons’ top spot from Mark Littrell.
Littrell resigned in April to join former Olathe North coach Gene Wier’s staff in Texas.
“I’m real excited to take over,” Gourley said as he drove his contract to Olathe South on Thursday afternoon. “They are in a similar spot to what Belton is. Both of us reached the state finals but weren’t able to win.”
Olathe South’s new coach said he hopes the team will have the same urgency to reach the 6A finals again that he has.
Gourley said he hadn’t been sure what to expect when he interviewed for the position, but immediately was hooked by the enthusiasm at the school.
“Everyone I have talked to since interviewing said this job is one of the top four jobs or so in all of Kansas City,” Gourley said. “It’s a great opportunity.”
