Defensive coordinator Tim Dade will coach his final game Friday night when Blue Springs battles Rock Bridge for the Missouri Class 6 state championship at 7:30 p.m. inside the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.
When Dustin Delaney accepted the head coaching job at Shawnee Mission East in May he had a simple message. He told his Lancers he wanted to go to the state championship. “We were a little shocked at first by his confidence, but we all bought in just like he told us to, and good things happened,” senior fullback Luke Taylor said.
Salina South is averaging 447 yards per game with 75 touchdowns through 12 games this season. In the first matchup, they put up 465 yards of total offense, which tied a season-high for a Blue Valley opponent, so Tigers head coach Eric Driskell is wary.
While getting ready to face two-time defending champion Lamar, the Cardinals are underdogs again. “We’ve thrived in games where all these people say we’re going to lose by 20 points,” Lawson senior quarterback Garrett Titus said. “It’s been really awesome to prove everybody wrong and make a name for our ourselves.”

Despite game-time temperatures in the 20s with a wind chill in the teens, Lees Summit West took to the air early and never cooled off in beating Kearney 42-14 in a Missouri Class 5 semifinal at Lees Summit West.
Wildcats will go for a second straight state title after beating Eureka 42-14 in a Class 6 semifinal game.
Hawklets beat Glendale 2-1 in overtime in semifinals match and will face Timberland for Class 3 title. Meanwhile, Raytown South falls in Class 2 semifinal, and St. Pius X loses in Class 1 semifinal.
Blue Valley, led by Logan Brettell’s five touchdown passes, took home a 38-33 victory at Blue Valley District Activity Complex to move on to the Kansas Class 5A state championship game.
Paola finishes the season 11-2. Coffeyville will face Buhler in 4A championship game.
Blue Springs, Kearney, Lee’s Summit West, Liberty North and Lawson play for state championship berths in Missouri this weekend, and in Kansas, SM East, Olathe North, Blue Valley, Blue Valley West and Paola battle in semifinals.
