The night the lights went out in Columbia
No, they didn’t hang a man, innocent or otherwise. (Remember that song “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.”) But Missouri’s new main scoreboard bit the dust Thursday night, as well as the electricity to much of the MU campus.
The power outage hit at 6:52 p.m., killing the field lights and the scoreboard. The field lights began to flicker on at 7:05 p.m., taking about 20 minutes to reach full brilliance.
Lights over the upper-deck exits remained lighted the entire time, providing just enough illumination for the Nebraska and Missouri kicking teams to continue pregame warm-ups.
•Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli was at the game Thursday night. Nice to see one good football game at least.
•Missouri offensive guard Kurtis Gregory is one of 30 football players across the nation to be considered as candidates for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award. The award is given to a senior on a Division I-A team excelling in the classroom, in character, in his community and in competition.
